The Goodness of God

“What is God really like?”

Have you ever had this thought? Has anyone ever asked you this question?

What is God really, really like?

Your thoughts about God’s nature are the most important thoughts you will ever have. Ever. How you see God, how you view his nature and character, determines how you will see yourself, how you will see others, how you see the rest of life and the world around you.
Thankfully, God likes to show us who He is. He is definitely a show and tell God.

In Exodus 33:18 Moses says to the Lord, “Show me your glory.” And the Lord says, “OK, I will do it. I will make all my goodness pass before you and I will proclaim my name in your presence.”

How wonderful!

Do you see it?

The Lord just told Moses that the glory of God is that He is GOOD. It is the nature and character of God to be good. And because God is unchanging,
(Malachi 3:6 “Behold, I am the Lord. I change not.”)

He will never, ever be anything other than good. He is persistently and everlastingly good. He is thoroughly, completely, and relentlessly good. He is supremely and unendingly good. Everything that He makes is good, and all his purposes are good. And best of all, He is good to you. His goodness pursues you every day.

Now, here is the where the miracle starts.

If we begin to see God as good, if we will expect him to be good and look for His goodness throughout the day, He will demonstrate Himself to us in very particular and personal ways. We can do the same thing that Moses did and expect the same answer that Moses got. We can say, “Lord, show me your glory!” And He will make His goodness pass before us. He did it for Moses, He does it for me, He will do it for you. He guarantees it.
If you do this, it will be the beginning of a great adventure.
Just ask Him to show you His glory.

I look forward to hearing what you discover about His goodness toward you this week.
A blessing: May the goodness of the Lord overtake you as you step into each day and may He cover you with peace each evening as you rest. When you wake, may His goodness be the first thought you think and may His goodness continually surprise you throughout the day. This is as it should be. You are His beloved child. Let His smile and His laughter accompany you and make your heart glad this week. You are dearly and tenderly loved.
